EQUINE SEMINAR OUTLINE

The weekend and home study courses use the same format and includes field study outside of the classroom.

One - Skeletal Anatomy
Bone structure and growth, names of bones, division of skeleton and bone
classification, boney landmarks, markings, terminology, form to function,
comparisons between breeds, pathologies.

Two - Muscular Anatomy Part One
Muscle structure and physiology, superficial muscle names and locations,
form to function, comparisons between breeds.

Three - Muscular Anatomy Part Two
Deep muscle names and locations, important ligaments, muscle origin,
insertion and action, soft tissue injury and repair, introduction to neurology,
palpation, therapeutic stretching.

Four - Myotherapy Technique
Definition of Myotherapy, how it works, history of Myotherapy, history taking, session planning, assignment of field study horses, stance analysis, Myotherapy techniques.

Five - Conformation
Conformation basics, hip discrepancy, and small hemi-pelvis, crookedness, eye dominance, form to function, pathologies.

Six - Biomechanics of movement

Correct and faulty movement, effects of conformation on movement, the foot, balance and shoeing, movement assessment.

Seven - Mid Course Evaluations

Project horse presentations, midterm exam, group discussion and individual practical evaluations.


Eight - Secondary Techniques
Secondary techniques, when and how to use them, spray and stretch, LIGHT FORCE LIGHT THERAPY
, treatment planning and incorporation of Secondary techniques, review of Myotherapy techniques.

Nine - Perpetuating Factors
Identification of perpetuating factors: conformation, shoeing, saddle fit, rider influences, dental concerns, environmental factors, using movement assessment to assist in determining possible perpetuating factors.

Ten - Corrective Exercises
Corrective exercises, strengthening the weaker muscles, proprioception, trail course,
lungeing, cavalletti, in-hand work.
